The name Elliott developed out of France, and a major Scandinavian branch, the Elfwold-Elwald adopted the French Norman spelling, finalizing is with and inserted “i” on the Scottish borders about 1650, into Ellot.
Sort of like in the United States a branch of the Mississippi River called the Missouri, is longer, and with the name Eliot with being adopted by the Elwald, which today carry the largest number of the descendants now Elliott, the branch is bigger than what is branched off of.
