Historic Environment Scotland, HERMITAGE CASTLE

Canmore, HERMITAGE CASTLE

It is felt that a map of protection and preserving a the time of the Douglas family owning it in the fourteenth century may have looked like this;

liddel map

1. The later caretaker Buccleuch late sixteenth century on…..

Fourteenth Century Armies protecting the Hermitage Castle.

2. The army of the Ermytage-Armytage-Hermitage; the Elwald-Ellot-Elliot.

3. The army of the west flank looking south having a strong right arm, is the army of the army strand along the Liddel Water; the Armystrand/Armstrong.

4. The army of the east flank looking south with a strong left-hand, are the Kerr protecting the  Kerr Valley/Kerhope, starting from the foot at Kerhopefoot, going east, along the Scottish border, are the Ker/Kerr/Carr.

The castle protected by the Elwald, the right/west flank by the Armystrand, and the left/east flank by the Ker. This was at a time of Douglas ownership, just after the Declaration of Aboroath.

It should be noted that one time Ermydoune was one of the regions of Liddesdale containing Ramsgill, and Lawis.

Lawis

As one can see there is a Lawis Superior (likely high on hill), and a Lawis Inferior (likely low on hill), and a  locality of Richard and Robert of Lawis, (likely Elwald).

I should be noted; That Ermydoune, means army fort, likely the name of the Hermitage previous to the Declaration of Abroath,  after it took on the name Ermytag, meaning army guard post, because then it was on the north side of the new Scottish/English Border, and now it is referred to as the Hermitage.

Though the Hermitage is originally apart of northern Northumbria.

The Elliot of today in the United Kingdom have a similar distribution of the Elwald of the pass.

The Elwald (of small patches of trees-forest/foresta), were the army of the armyhouse Ermytag/Hermitage, and lived around the house, towards the north on the hill (law), the people of the hill were call lawis which means of the hill.

Mark Ellot of the Hill

Roberts de Lawis is likely Robert Elwald of Lawis (of the hill).

Robert de Lawis

The Elwald army belonged to the hill were of the region north of the Hermitage Castle on the Hermitage Hill referred to as belonging to hill as being of Lawis where -is is a possessive as -‘s.  Those Elwald  belonging to the trees south of the Hermitage would be referred to as of Shawis.

antiquities

antiquities act

The United Kingdom does not have an Antiquities Act, like the United States. It is difficult for my to understand, why doesn’t the United Kingdom protect it’s historical antiquities? The United States would never think of not protecting their own historical antiquities, and it is best for the home country to protect their own antiquities. Doesn’t today’s United Kingdom feel historical antiquities need protection? Does INFINIS from near London, feel that THE HERMITAGE is an historical antiquity part of the United Kingdom, or is this a way for the English INFINIS to invade Scotland?

It is likely that the Elliott outside the United Kingdom like myself have Scottish origins, before migration to Ulster then on to America; doesn’t INFINIS want the rest of the Elliott of the world to visit their homeland?

Today’s Buck (Buccleuch);

‘To pollute the landscape backdrop of the castle with all its power to evoke the history and heritage of the Scottish Borders would be nothing short of vandalism,’ stresses The Duke of Buccleuch.

The Armystrand (an army stranded along the Liddel Water)/Armstrong as in the pass are also protecting and preserving the Hermitage. It is as thought Buck (Buckcleuch/Buccleuch) is looking after the castle, the Elwald (Ellot/Elliot) are looking after the area around the castle, and the Armystrand (Armstrong) are protecting the Liddel Water part of the border.

Traitors-of-Leven-map1

Since the Ker (Kerr/Carr) are likely the protectorate of the border toward the east and their valley; Kerhope (valley of the Kerr), and not directly involved in the Hermitage, it would be good if the Kerr/Carr, could establish region of protection from a wind farms, around regions of their historical castles, before INFINIS would propose any wind farms in these areas. This would also help place more concerns on protection and preservation of the Hermitage Castle.

THE UNITED KINGDOM DOES NOT HAVE AN ANTIQUITIES ACT TO PROTECT IT’S PRICELESS ANTIQUITIES FROM WIND FARMS SUCH AS THE UNITED STATES HAS. THE WIND TURBINE POWER COMPANIES CAN GIVE LOCAL COMMUNITIES A STIFFEN WHICH WILL NOT COMPENSATE FOR THE INCOME LOCAL COMMUNITIES SUCH AS NEWCASTLETON AND HAWICK WOULD GAIN IN NOTORIETY AND FROM THIS NOTORIETY INCOME FROM VISITING TOURIST. SIMILAR TO PAYING INDIGENOUS AMERICANS WHICH DO NOT WANT TO SELL THEIR LAND, TO GIVE THE WIND TURBINE COMPANY SUCH AS INFINIS OR NBW RATIONALIZATION FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF A PRICELESS HISTORICAL ANTIQUITY AS THE HERMITAGE CASTLE.
